Any game day ignites the tradition of gathering friends and family, huddling around a TV, cheering for your favorite sports team, and eating food but when it’s Super Bowl Sunday, the event is even mightier. Wings, chili, burgers, steaks, dips, cookies, pretzels, pigs in a blanket and anything else that you can stuff quickly in your mouth without missing plays in the game are plentiful on this one day of the year. This year was not any different for my friends and me. A couple hours before kick-off, we all gathered and played a customary pre-Super Bowl football game (with a lot less mud than last year due to the warm weather). It was truly a perfect day to spend outside and really have some fun! And after, we gathered together to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers battle it out for the win. For those not particularly interested in the game (like myself), we prepared to judge the commercials and indulge in the half-time performance (did anyone else think it was pretty terrible this year?!). Oh, and we can’t forget that with the nature of a good sports game, amazing food is always involved. This year’s food was made up of dishes that were brought potluck-style and quickly turned into an extraordinary feast as everyone arrived. We were all extremely pleased with the tremendous and appetizing turnout, and everybody stayed nice and full throughout the entire game.
I’ve always enjoyed potlucks because each person gets to contribute to the event and bring something that they thoughtfully made or picked out. Potlucks allow personalities to be illustrated through food and also makes for a great conversational piece. And in a way, even without food, every gathering or event is really a natural potluck: individuals coming together and sharing parts of themselves through exchanging conversations, opinions, and gestures. I think this nature of a human or social “potluck” is such an amazing aspect of life and a routine that is often underappreciated. So whether it be a potluck full of delicious food and goodies to choose from, or an event where people just bring themselves, there is always an opportunity to explore uncharted territories and get to know new people or things!
Here is a sample of what our delicious potluck consisted of today–I made the 7 layer dip and the lemons bars but the rest of the dishes were made by my amazing and truly talented friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful Super Bowl Sunday, and congratulations to the Packers for winning!

how did you make the jello layers?
I actually didn’t make those (my talented friend did!) but what she did was make the first layer, put in in the fridge, then after it hardened she added the second layer. Repeat until all layers are finished! I hope that helps! :)
