Shrimp and Avocado Crostini

Avocados are amazing. Especially when you find one that’s perfectly ripe and beautifully green after you slice it in half. You know that awesome feeling, right? Or is it just me?? It’s like a small, but very fulfilling food win that deserves a pat on the back :) And shrimp? Anything with seafood is delicious in my book. Add a little citrus and spice, and you’ve got yourself an easy, flavorful snack/appetizer! Remember how I’m training for my first half marathon? Well, it’s in less than a month…EEK!…and I’m definitely not prepared. I’m running the race with a few coworkers, my roommate, and two of my friends so although I’m huffing and puffing during each of my runs, I’m really excited to finish a 13.1 mile race! A fellow food blogger friend, Ishita, was also training for a different half (which she just completed–go Ishita!) so we had a lot [Continue Reading…]

Dark Chocolate Chip and Hazelnut Cookies with Sea Salt

Most of you know that my work out regimen has been pretttyyy bad lately but despite that fact, I’m participating in a mud run with a group of friends THIS weekend! I must have blacked out or something when I signed up because  as much fun as hauling myself over barriers and running through mud sounds let’s face it, I’m weak and feeble. My days of being actively involved in track and field and soccer are long gone and getting myself to the gym is more like going to the dentist. I actually love running but after I moved to SF, it’s been really hard to get motivated. All the streets have stoplights so you have to run. stop. run. stop. jog across the intersection. stop. Yeah, yeah…I know…all excuses! Someone slap me. I think I’ll get over this self loathing though and just freaking work out!!! RIGHT? Right. And then I’m [Continue Reading…]

Happy New Year!

New Year’s Day Last Year, January 2011 Tucked inside a cabin surrounded by snow, I snuck off into a room and secretly launched my very first blog post on this very day last year. It was exhilerating and scary all at the same time. And today, I’m in Tahoe again (this time with a lot less snow), and I can’t help but think of everything that has happened in 2011! Over the past couple of weeks, I have gone back to my very first post and re-read it multiple times. I really wanted to see where I started from and where I’ve gotten. I’ve discovered that this blog has changed from my original idea, and it’s amazing to see how things can shift and grow within a year. Life has gotten busier, I’ve moved cities, and my post styles have moved in a different direction. Every now and then they revert back [Continue Reading…]

Drive, Just Drive

“The big lesson in life, baby, is never be scared of anyone or anything.” – Frank Sinatra When I was at the Foodbuzz Food Blogger Festival, the Saturday morning panel was a wonderful way to start the day. Kath, Sarah, Joy, Tracy, and Jessica were such amazing panelists and really opened up my eyes even more to the world of food blogging. Before this festival, I was pretty much on my own. When I first started my blog, I was the only blogger I knew. Slowly through this experience, I have met many other bloggers and it has been such a fun adventure. Really, it was quite a random choice and to this day I can’t really explain why I started a food blog. Actually, yes, I can. I knew I needed a hobby and I knew it needed to be something that I actually enjoyed and wouldn’t wind up [Continue Reading…]

Kitchen-less Thoughts

I have no kitchen right now to whip up tasty treats or savory meals, so I have decided to share with you my thoughts! Bear with me, all, it’s been a crazy three weeks! I’ve been apartment hunting, and man, does it take a lot out of you. But fear not, once I find the perfect apartment and wonderful kitchen, I will be back in full swing! After all, what’s life without a little change and adventure, right?! But for now, all I have to offer is the insight I’ve learned and discovered within the past three weeks :) Here it goes… Boston, MA. Madison, WI. Japan. Brooklyn, NY. Santa Barbara, CA. Germany. Eugene, OR. Sonoma County. India. Los Angeles, CA. South Africa. Davis, CA. Korea. Canada. San Diego, CA. Vietnam. Hawaii. New Zealand. San Francisco, CA. These are only some of the places where my friends and family currently call [Continue Reading…]
