Split Pea Soup with Smoked Ham

I’ve just discovered the greatness of homemade split pea soup. It’s so simple to make, your house smells like stew, and it’s great to eat on a rainy day. It’s been raining like crazy in San Francisco but it’s ok because that means that there’s going to be a lot of snow in Tahoe this winter! YES! Soooooooo a pound of dried split peas cost me $1.39 at Whole Foods. So cheap. I love it!! The most expensive item in this soup is the ham hock (shank?…what’s the difference??) and it was about $8. So for just over $10 I was able to make a HUGE pot of soup which fed about 8 people…multiple times. MORE IMPORTANTLY: Do you guys remember The Holiday Project last year????? Well this year, it’s back!!! I’ve been keeping it a secret but now it’s time to share because it’s all coming together! I started the [Continue Reading...]

Pumpkin Cheesecake

It’s Friday (TGIF!) so we’re celebrating :) I KNOW, I KNOW, I KNOW…pumpkin was so last month. But you know what? Pumpkin will never go out of style, no matter what people say. And neither will cheesecake. It’s just the truth. I’m so ready for the weekend! Life has been a little hectic and busy lately. But I guess life has to be crazy every once in a while or else it wouldn’t be any fun, right? I’m excited to grab some dinner with friends tonight and then spend the weekend baking my little heart out. And watching Christmas movies, of course. And listening to this song (I just LOVE it!!). Oh, and I’ll also be channeling all of my strength towards NOT buy everything from Sur La Table regardless of how many sale/find the perfect gift emails and catalogs they send me! You guys, I also have something really, REALLY [Continue Reading...]

Cheddar Vegetable Chowder

Good morninggg, friends! Hope everyone’s day is off to a good start. I don’t know about you guys, but it’s been really chilly in San Francisco lately. Nice and sunny but really cold! There were a couple days when it has rained, but other than that I’d say this winter has been pretty weird. Nonetheless, I have been craving soup like it’s about to go out of style. Any kind, really. Tomato, cream of broccoli, beef stew, chicken noodle, and the list goes on. I started looking up soups on Pinterest. [Side bar--GAH, Pinterest. I'm addicted. Are you guys on it? If so, follow me or leave your link in the comments and I will follow you!] Anyway, so I decided to make this veggie chowder, and it is SO GOOD! And healthy! Unlike other creamy soups, there’s no cream, half and half,  or sour cream at all in this [Continue Reading...]

Rain, Rain, Come Again Another Day

Is everyone experiencing rain in their respective areas lately? Well, it feels like this non-stop pour has been around for so long with no intention of leaving anytime soon. Many people find rain very depressing. It’s cold, uncomfortable to be in, and limits many outdoor activities. I, however, thoroughly enjoy the rainy days. For me, it’s quite comforting and brings a sense of warmth. I know that sounds strange because rain is anything but warm, but I think it makes me think of being in a cozy house, under a big blanket and reading a good book. Plus, the sound of raindrops outside on the dark pavement and running down my window is so soothing to me. I actually like to crack my window at night and let the rain drown away the silence of the night! With all of this rain, a common staple of mine is soup. Any [Continue Reading...]
